29 Marketing Ideas for Zimbabwe’s Marketing Myopia

marketing myopia: bad for business.

So often Zimbabwean businesses are limited by ideas on how to market themselves and get results…oh and without spending too much money. In Zimbabwe, I’d estimate that probably 95% of entrepreneurs suffer from a terrible condition popularly known by we direct response marketers as ‘Marketing Myopia’

Marketing myopia is when an entrepreneur or business cannot see beyond the common marketing strategies and tactics of their industry.

In This Post

  • An Example of Marketing Myopia in Zimbabwe
  • How this problem is a great opportunity for your business
  • 29 Marketing ideas to cure you

For example – Real Estate Agents In Zimbabwe

They all suffer from very severe Marketing Myopia – in other words, they’re all marketing EXACTLY the same way

  1. Online classifieds
  2. Boring websites packed with dozens or even hundreds of properties
  3. Newspaper classifieds
  4. Email (sometimes phone) marketing to their lists.
  5. And showing the property

Remove their logo from anyone of their classifieds ads and it would all look like the exact same advert, just different sizes. It’s ridiculous.

It’s A Great Business Opportunity!

When you know exactly what and how your competitors marketing strategy works, it makes them very easy to compete with, and out-perform – even if they’re bigger and have more money than you do. This is the reason I consider this industry, as competitive as it may seem, relatively wide open for a smart marketer. But there are so many just like it.

What to do about marketing myopia in YOUR business

Take a look at what marketing practices that have become standard practice in your industry and evaluate them. Are they still the most effective way to reach and persuade the market? Take what’s working well and discard the rest.

Next look at industries that are completely different to your own. In what ways can you use what’s working for others in your own business?

As someone whose worked with very many businesses in many different industries for years now, I can tell you this – you’ll be shocked at just how many cost-effective and highly profitable tactics are available to you once you get outside the box of your own industry.
